American firearm Safety is a firearm training company located in Commerce City CO. At AFS we are focused on empowering the average person to be able to defend themselves from any threat. We teach a 8 hour basic pistol course that qualifies you for your CHP and meets all requirements under HB24-1174. We teach the 4 hour and 12 hour SSF course required for purchasing regulated firearms in Colorado. We offer basic Rifle/carbine courses along with basic shotgun for defense. All of our courses are designed to to advance any level of shooter but we love working with folks who maybe have been nervous to reach out to other trainers because of a lack of experience or a fear of firearms in general. Maybe you have never even fired a gun before? You will leave our classes with the confidence to operate your desired weapon platform in defense. Guaranteed!!
To get started with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, you need an eligibility card. You must have this card to take the SSF course: the 4-hour course if you already have hunter safety, or the 12-hour course if you don’t. Email me if you need help with the process.
My name is Ben Draughon. I have 20 plus years shooting experience with the last ten spent refining my handgun skills through various training schools. I am a certified NRA instructor and am on the Verified trainers list in Adams County Colorado. I spent a short time in the US Military in the early 2000’s after 9/11 where my interest for firearms and self defense tactics began. These days I am a grateful believer in Jesus, a husband, and a father. I still believe that we live in the best country in the world where we have the right and responsibility to protect ourselves from any threat foreign and domestic. Every person can and should have the ability to protect themselves and their family. “ Don’t count on others when it comes to the safety of your children”. This is my mantra.

Our Services
This class is designed for the whole family and covers all the basics of firearm Safety for every age group. Any adult 21 years or older will be awarded a certificate of completion that makes them eligible to receive their CHP from their local sheriff This class meets all requirements under Colorado state statute HB24-1174. 4 hours of classroom time and 4 hours of range time.
